Liar’s Dice by Miro Apostolakis is a 2018 single player game. It allows the player to challenge an AI opponent in a classic bluffing game of dice.

The player algorithm was created by a game enthusiastic student of mathematics to closely resemble their own style of risk-taking, bluffing and playstyle. The algorithm includes various states of calculated randomness in its decision making for creating a worthy and unpredictable opponent that tries to imitate an experienced player that masters different tactics and varies between them to try to stay one step ahead.

The game was discontinued until further notice in 2019. There are currently no official public versions of the game and no official plans for continuing developement.

Fun facts about the game:

During the games official run, the players could volunteer to keep score on their games against the AI. At the time, the player algorithm won roughly half of all of its recorded games which included both beginners and veterans as its opponents.

The algorithm’s creator Miro can verify that this result was indeed close to his own experience of playing the game. Nothing mocks a person quite in the same way as to lose five games successively against a bot that is supposed to be a simulacrum of yourself…
